The Rights of Feeling Animals
"The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated." Gandi
Considering how much evidence there is to prove how feeling and intelligent animals are; it's sad that they are exploited in such ways that their feelings aren't taken into account. If more people knew exactly what happens to animals for the sake of money, the animals would probably have more people on their side. Here's some brief information about myths that surround certain trades which involve animals. Please click on the links for more in-depth information. Vivisection Is Necessary For Human Health More doctors and scientists are querying the effectiveness of vivisection now. There is a lot of evidence to support the fact that animals don't deal with ilnesses like humans do. Animals also don't tend to get the same diseases or illnesses as we do. About 2% of illnesses can be found in animal that can also be found in humans. please click here to find out more
Fur Is A By-Product Of The Meat Trade
Not only are animals treated badly for this trade they are also killed in appalling circumstances. Advertisers for the trade claim fur is by-product of meat but this isn't the case; animals killed for their meat tend to be quite young whereas animals kept for the fur trade are usually much older so that their fur has had time to grow. Rabbits, for example, are killed at about 8 weeks old for meat whereas for fur, they're killed at about six months old.

Farming Methods Have Improved Over The Years And Animals Are Treated Well and Killed Quickly
Up to 90% of pork comes from pigs kept in factory farms; one of the cruelest farming methods. Animals are often kept in cramped, unsanitary conditions, overfed and given drugs to keep them alive from birth until they are killed at about six months old. Chickens are kept in cages not much bigger than an open newspaper and their beaks and claws have to be cut off so they don't pluck out their feathers (a sign of stress).
Abattoir workers are given a number of animals they aim to kill everyday (usually around 500). The pressure placed on employees to fulfill their kill quota, means that animals are often killed inhumanely with the worker having no time to care about killing the animal without causing it too much pain.

Animals Are Kept Well For Greyhound & Horse Racing
A lot of people disagree with 'bloodsports' such as deer and fox hunting, badger baiting and bull and dog fights. It's also important to consider sports such as horse racing and greyhound racing where animals are often shot or put down earlier than they would normally be, due to injury which wouldn't enable them to race anymore. Many racing animals are given drugs to make them slower or faster for the sake of fixed bets.

Animals Kept In Captivity Are Treated Well And Endangered Animals Benefit From Breeding Programmes
Zoos, aquariums and circuses all claim to have high animal welfare standards and zoos often say they are of benefit to endangered species when they breed them and release them into the wild. A lot of animals don't make it through their first year after being released into the wild. Also, out of the 120 endangered species which are currently under the international zoos breeding programme, only 16 species have been introduced back into the wild and these haven't always been successful. Circuses don't offer particularly pleasant lives for animals; they're constantly traveling in cramped conditions and forced into completely unnatural situations, for example, tigers are afraid of fire and are made to jump through hoops of fire. An estimated 95% of animals used in aquariums, come from the wild and 49-80% of these animals die on the journey to the aquarium.
